2019: Suit seeking Buhari's disqualification filed

Farmers under the aegis of The Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN) and Fertilisers Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria (FEPSAN) have announced a separate donation of N1.77 billion to the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

While RIFAN donated N1.2 billion, FEPSAN said it will commit N570 million to extend President Buhari’s tenure to 2023.

The farmers made the announcement Wednesday night in Abuja during a Gala Night organised by beneficiaries of the government’s Anchor Borrowers Programme which held at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.

Aminu Goronyo, the President of RIFAN said the 12.2 million members of the association would make a donation of N100 each which translates to N1.2 billion.

Goronyo said the group was motivated by Buhari’s “commitments and favourable policies to agriculture,”

On its part, FEPSAN said N570 million out of the N120 billion it generated from fertiliser subsidy in two years.

The President of the association, Thomas Etuh said the group was committed to the re-election of President Buhari.

In his reaction, Buhari appreciated the kind gestures form the farmers, saying that the statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have confirmed that his administration’s policies are yielding results.

The President emphasised that he inherited a failed agricultural sector in 2015.

“Seeing your faces and hearing your stories give me hope. Today, we are on track to achieving an all-inclusive economy.”

The event had in attendance state governors, CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele; APC chairman, Adams Oshimhole and some other top government officials.
