2019 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION– How Nigeria Voted: BUHARI (15,191,847) – ATIKU (11,262,978)

Incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the most votes in the just concluded presidential poll which held February 23, 2019.

From the official tally of results as processed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Buhari polled 15,262,978 to lead rival candidate Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party ((PDP) who got 11,262,978 votes.

Results from across Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, show that he won in 19 States while Atiku led in 17 and the FCT.

By the provisions of the law, President Buhari is expected to score two-third of the votes in at least 24 Sates before he can be declared winner. Additionally, the law provides that the number of accredited voters who could not exercise their franchise, for one reason or the other, must not be bigger than the difference in the votes between the leading contenders.

The opposition party, PDP, has alleged that the elections were rigged, and called for cancellation of the collation of results soon after they started.
