2019: Though I support Buhari, ‘politics can’t separate me and my father’– Obasanjo’s son

Olajuwon Obasanjo, national coordinator of Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO), says though he supports the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari, his relationship with his father, who opposes his re-election, remains intact.

The son of the former president said this while addressing reporters in Abuja on Wednesday.

He noted that Buhari stood above his peers in the administration of the nation’s resources.

Olajuwon also commended the president for his youth-focused policies.

“Buhari believes in promoting Nigerian youths which is the basis of forming this association (BYO),” he said.

“This government has empowered the youths to go into farming and other entrepreneurship.

“This government is laying a good foundation for an expanded economic base and infrastructure development.”

Pressed, he refused to compare the administration of his father with the the current administration, saying the surrounding situations are different.

He said, “I’m here as an individual, adult, and someone who believes in this government. Politics can’t separate me and my father. We are still one loving family; our relationship is cordial”.

“Politics is meant to unite us. It is important we rise above ethnicity, religious bigotry, and primordial sentiments.”

Obasanjo has endorsed his former deputy and erstwhile foe, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for president in 2019.
