Agitations in South Eastern Nigeria against the present structure of the country has continued to mount as a coalition of pressure and socio-political groups from the zone weekend vowed that the people would only back politicians who are in support of restructuring.

The group under the banner of the Eastern Consultative Assembly (ECA) stated this during its meeting in Enugu, lamenting that the continuous killings of people from the zone in many parts of the country and the failure of President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to punish the culprits, has made it necessary to restructure the country.
Present at the meeting were Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), town unions, students groups, women associations, youth organisations and trade unions.
Also present were relatives of Ndubisi Uzoma, who was beheaded by Fulani herdsmen in Abuja last week and Pastor Mike Agbahime whose 74 year old wife, Bridget, was murdered in Kano last June.
ECA in its communique signed by Mrs. Maria Okwor and ECA Secretary, Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, the group said it has lost faith in unitary government.

“The continued pretence by the central government that the loss of faith in unitary Nigeria as shown by various agitations for secession can be resolved through force of arms is childish and actually paints government as unserious and insincere about the need to save Nigeria’s future. Continuous delay in restructuring Nigeria only deepens the acrimony, distrusts and fears presently ruling the land,” part of the communique read.
The group further stated, “No politician who is not in support of restructuring Nigeria will receive votes in Igbo land, from ward elections, through state and National legislative elections to governorship and presidential elections. Our people will only vote for freedom from eternal slavery henceforth.”
ECA also decried the release of Dauda Ahmed and others who were charged for the murder of 74 year old Bridget Agbahime and called on both Kano State government and
