2023: Tinubu for president campaign kicks off in London

A massive campaign to have Nigerians vote for former governor of Lagos State, Ahmed Bola Tinubu as president of Nigeria come 2023 has kicked off in London, United Kingdom.

In a video shared by Arise TV on Monday, associates of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) covered huge spaces around a London Train Station with adverts pushing for a Tinubu candidacy for the next presidential election in Nigeria.

A campaign slogan ‘Yes We Can’, with Tinubu’s name and picture was displayed around the walls and floor of the Train Station in efforts to create awareness for the politician who has been recuperating from an unknown illness in London for the past few weeks

Although his media handlers have continued to deny that he is unwell, several high profile politicians in the country have visited him in his London home to commiserate with him.

Among those who have visited him are President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State among others.

Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum who also doubles as the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi was also among the Nigerian signatories who have lined up to visit Tinubu in his London abode.

Fayemi, during an interview with AriseTV on Sunday, debunked speculations linking his visit to the APC leader to permutations in the upcoming 2023 general elections.

He had visited Tinubu alongside Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State.

Speaking during the interview, Fayemi said, “He (Akeredolu) and I were in London together to see our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but it had absolutely nothing to do with 2023 presidential plans whatsoever. That’s not the reason why we went there.

“Asiwaju just had surgery, it is simply proper etiquette or behaviour both in the part of the country where I come from but also generally that when a friend and elder is undergoing health challenges, it would be improper on your part not to show solidarity and support.

“That is simply what took us there; we wanted to associate ourselves with him at a time of need and as an elder, as a mentor and as a big figure in our political party, nothing wrong in paying him a courtesy visit to check on him to see how he was faring and we did that and we returned.

“It has nothing to do with 2023; let me make that absolutely clear.”
