24-hrs after, DSS frees Choc City founder Maikori

A day after Chocolate City founder Audu Maikori was picked up in Lagos by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), and reportedly transferred to Abuja for more questioning, the lawyer cum entertainment impresario has been freed.

Maikori who was picked up for questioning over a his recent comments on social media on the southern Kaduna killings when he claimed 5 students of the Kaduna state College of Education were killed in the crisis took a selfie with lawyer, Barrister Mark Jacob outside the facility where he was initially detained moments after he was freed.

His release was confirmed by Chocolate City’s chief operations officer, Paul Okeugo. “Audu [has been] released and unharmed,” he said on Saturday evening.

Reports also reveal that his immediate release was effected after Bring back our girls convener, Oby Ezekwesili wadded into the matter.

Though he has since retracted the comments, informing that after carrying out a detailed investigation that involved the police, he found out that his driver who broke the news to him and was in Kaduna at the time of the incident and claimed his brother was also killed, lied to him just to extort money.

Recall that Maikori’s statement was also swiftly denied by the College of Education which issued a statement refuting the claims made by the Choc City boss who was later faced with a backlash on social media before he was picked up for questioning by the DSS.
