27 kidnapping, robbery suspects arrested in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has announced the arrest of 27 persons for alleged kidnapping and armed robbery in different parts of the state.

This was announced by the state Police Commissioner, Mr Yakubu Usman, in Lokoja while parading the suspects.

According to Usman, one of suspects allegedly led his gang to kidnap a Chinese lady, Lilly Yunpin, and collected N3m as ransom. He was however arrested when he was in the process of kidnapping another person. Six other members of his gang are said to still be at large.

The commissioner said that another suspect, who led others to kidnap and killed their victim, was arrested in one hotel at Idah on March 2.

Continuing, the police boss said the 25-year-old suspect and his gang members killed their victim after collecting N2.5m as ransom and they also went back to kill the father of the victim, Alhaji Mohammed Yusuff, in retaliation of his arrest by police.

The police commissioner further disclosed that his men were able to rescue four other victims, including a seven-year-old boy, while four robbery suspects were killed on March 2 along Ayangba-Itobe road. Two vehicles, AK-47 riffles, five locally made pistols, live cartridges and other
dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspects.

The suspects are to be charged to court soon.
