3 editors forced to resign after publishing Putin’s family business interest

A publication by the RBC media group on the business affairs of the family of President Vladimir Putin of Russia has led to the resignation of the three editors.

The publication which includes financial dealings of people close to Putin, among them his son-in-law in a high-profile investigative report revealed by the group’s daily newspaper led to the resignation of the three editors.

The three editors are Elizaveta Osetinskaya, editor-in-chief of the RBC media group; Roman Badanin, editor-in-chief of the group’s news agency; and Maxim Solyus, editor-in-chief of its daily newspaper.

According to Reuters, the editors threw in the towel after weeks of pressure on the media outlet and several raids by Russian police officials.

A Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, denied that the group had been put under any pressure, according to Interfax news agency.

“Recently we have talked a lot about how to develop RBC further and in these conversations we have been unable to reach a common opinion on important issues,” RBC general director, Nikolai Molibog, said in a statement. “That is why we have decided to part ways.”

When asked, the group declined to confirm or comment on whether the editors left under pressure from Putin’s government.
