Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, said Monday three junior employees of the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) were among the four newly discovered COVID-19 cases in the state.

Akeredolu, who disclosed this during a media briefing in Akure, described the affected staff as heroes and promised that the state government would stand with them throughout the period of their incapacitation.

The governor said: “These three individuals are junior workers in that establishment, yet their contributions are critical and very essential to all our operations to fight COVID–19.

“Ondo State government stands firmly with them and will walk with them throughout these difficult times until they recover and fully get back their daily lives.

“Their tribulation is our burden and their total recovery will be our joy.”

Consequently, Akeredolu has directed the immediate absorption of the infected workers into the IDH as full staff.

He also ordered that all health workers in the state be paid 50 percent of their consolidated basic salary as a hazard allowance.

“Furthermore, all healthcare workers working directly in the Isolation Centre/Treatment Centre are to get an additional 20 percent of their 50 percent as special risk allowance.

“They will also get a top-up lump sum from the funds of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19,” the governor added.
