3 Kenyan officers facing prosecution for killing lawyer, client & driver
The director of prosecutions in Kenya has informed that three local police officers will face prosecution for killing a lawyer, his client and their driver.
One of the victims Josephat Mwendwa had earlier filed a complaint earlier through another lawyer, Willie Kimani, claiming that (he) Mwendwa had been shot and injured by the police last April.
According to rights activists, Mwendwa was then charged with a range of offences, including possessing drugs, gambling in public and resisting arrest.
Kimani who works for U.S.-based International Justice Mission said Mwendwa was later found dead along with his driver and a client with their bodies found in the Ol-Donyo Sabuk River northeast of the capital, Nairobi.
Police spokesman George Kinoti said in a statement that the three police officers had been arrested in connection with the deaths and that an investigation was underway.
“There are three suspects in custody and they will be arraigned in court on Monday,” the Director of Public Prosecution said. The statement did not specify what charges they would face.
