The statement further noted that no group has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion which happened next to the border with Burkina Faso.

The northern region of Mali has been a battle field between Malian army and Al-Qaeda-linked militants for years with France (former colonial masters of Mali) joining in the battle since January 2013 to stop the advancement of militants to southern capital of Bamako.
