3 policemen killed as bandits kidnap Syrian national

Three policemen have been shot dead in Sokoto State, by unknown gunmen who have also kidnapped a foreign national believed to be a Syrian.

The death of the three policemen at a quarry site in Lambar Mazaru, Bodinga Local Government Area was confirmed by the Sokoto State Police Command.

According to Police spokesman Cordelia Nwawe, the trio were killed during the kidnap of the Syrian at the quarry site owned by Triacta Construction Company, located along the Sokoto-Jega Road.

Nwawe said that the three policemen who were standing guard for the construction company managed by the kidnapped victim identified as Abul Nasir were killed in a shootout with the kidnappers.

The police spokesperson also added that the deceased were confirmed dead in hospital after the attack by the hoodlum said to be four in number who came in a car with tinted glass.

In a similar development, three policemen attached to a Syrian engineer working with a construction company along the Sokoto-Jega Road, were killed in an attempt to foil the abduction of the Syrian national.

Motorists plying the Sokoto-Yabo-Jega route, who witnessed the incident, confirmed this to one of our correspondents in Sokoto.

Another source said the remains of the affected policemen had since been removed and deposited in the mortuary at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
