‘Only 3% of workers benefitted from NHF’

After 30 years of operating the National Housing Fund (NHF), only three percent of Nigerian workers has benefited from it, New Telegraph has learnt.

According to the Managing Director, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Professor Mohammed Al-Amin, majority of federal and state governments’ staff who subscribed to NHF have not been able to access the fund to actualize their dream of becoming home owners.

Speaking with New Telegraph on different interventions of the authority in the area of housing provision, Al-Amin said it has been observed that cumbersome procedures have inhibited workers from accessing the fund, hence the need to design programme in collaboration with the Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDA) to facilitate the process for staff.

He said: “We realised that the Federal and State governments’ staff are under what we called the National Housing Fund; where they can access between N5million to N15million each for homeownership. But over 30 years of this fund, only three per cent of Nigeria’s workers have benefitted from it.
