31-yr-old burglar arrested for murdering victim, raiding his apartment

NIGER: 25-yr-old father of 5 behind bars for raping 12-yr-old girl

The long arm of the law has caught up with a 31-year-old suspect identified as Adelowo Adedayo who murdered his victim identified as one Abdullahi Liman and later raided his apartment.

According to a police source, the incident which reportedly happened on January 16, 2019, saw the suspect cart away his victim’s belongings, including a set of chairs, an LG plasma television, mattress, three pairs of shoes and two bags of clothes.

Following the arrest of the suspect by police who were acting on information from the family of the deceased, Adedayo led the police to a shallow grave at the APC Quarters, Suleja in the Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State, where he allegedly buried the victim.

In his confessional statement, Adedayo said he killed his victim so as to have easy access to whisk away his property.

He said, “I have been planning to steal from his house for the past six months; unfortunately, the day I went there, he was at home and the only option left for me was to kill him.

“Liman’s house was well furnished and I wanted to have some of the property; but when I met him in his house, I killed him so that he would not expose me to people.”

The arrest of the suspect was confirmed by Muhammad Abubakar, the State Public Relations Officer who said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as findings into the case were concluded.
