31-yr-old ex-convict arrested for stealing brainboxes of 57 cars

The long arm of the law has again caught up with an ex-convict identified as Kunle Afolabi, 31, who was arrested after he allegedly vandalised a Toyota Corolla, belonging to a Deacon of the First Baptist Church, Broad Street, Lagos.

Afolabi who confessed to have stolen no less than 57 brainboxes from cars was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command with two brainboxes of Toyota Corrolla and four winding buttons recovered from him.

The indegene of Oye-Ekiti confessed to the police that he removed the brainboxes and other items found on him from the Deacon’s car and another Corrolla in the same area.

He said; “I focus on Toyota products because there are ready buyers. Spare part sellers are ever ready to buy from us. I sell Corolla brainboxes for N40, 000 and Hilux, around N70, 000. I go for operations on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays.

“The areas I operate are Ikoyi, Lagos Island and Victoria Island. I sell the stolen items to a vehicle part dealer, at Coconut area of Ajegunle. Most times, I take the parts to him at Layode Street, Ajegunle or we meet at his shop.”

The suspect also revealed that he was initiated into the business by his friend simply identified as Yinka in the year 2014.

“I was introduced into this business by my friend Yinka in 2014. He lives at at Cole Street, Oyingbo, Lagos. Together, Yinka and I have stolen brainboxes of many cars; Toyota and Lexus”, he said.
