32 dead as Turkish plane crashes into village

Rescue and security operatives are said to be having a tough time searching for bodies after a Turkish Boeing 747 plane crashed into a populated village near Kyrgyzstan’s Manas airport, killing at least 32 people.

According to Flightradar24 the plane belonged to MyCargo Airlines, a Turkish cargo airline based in Istanbul.

Reports say most of those declared dead were residents of the village who were caught unawares after the plane attempting to land at Kyrgyzstan’s main airport in thick fog crashed.

Mukhammed Svarov, head of crisis management centre at the emergencies ministry, said 15 buildings in the village were damaged while he put the toll at 32 people after initially reporting 15 deaths.

Medical staff said that six children were among the victims. Four pilots also died, the health ministry said.
