A Turkish news agency reports that at least 33 people have lost their lives following a boat mishap in the Mediterranean Sea involving migrants from Myanmar, Afghanistan and Syria.

Reports say the bodies of five children were recovered off the Turkish coastal town of Ayvacik, Anadolu after the boat heading to Greece, a major destination for those trying to escape war and poverty in Asia capsized.

Rescue authorities managed to save 75 people on the refugee-packed vessels which contained people from Myanmar, Afghanistan and Syria.
The International Organisation for Migration say over 244 people have been reported dead or missing as desperate asylum seekers make their way through dangerous trips across the Aegean Sea.

“Deaths on this route are increasing at an alarming rate,” IOM spokesman Joel Millman told reporters.
On the other hand, the IOM informs that more than 55,500 migrants managed successfully to cross the Mediterranean into Europe in the first 28 days of January 2016.
