A Magistrates’ Court, Ogba, Lagos played host to the case of an 11-year-old girl identified as Success who was raped by a 33-year-old man named Chijioke George.
The suspect who is a neighbour of Success and has been abusing her since September 2017 was reportedly arrested after the victim’s aunt caught him in the act.
In her statement, the victim said she couldn’t tell anyone about Chijioke’s abuse because he threatened to kill her family members if she told anyone about the act.
According to inspector Clifford Ogu, the offence committed by the suspect was punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos. George was arraigned on a one count charge.
The charge reads in part: “That you Chijoke George ‘M’ on the 3RD and 4TH January 2018 in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully defile an 11-year-old girl, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, Chijioke who pleaded not guilty was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties by the presiding magistrate, Mrs. T. Akanni.
