The new 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League season began on a bright note at the weekend with four away wins.

Newly promoted MFM FC of Lagos defeated Nasarawa United 2-1 in their opening game of the competition with IfeanyiUbah, Lobi Stars and Wikki Tourists also recording wins away from their home grounds.

The Olukoya boys got the first goal in the 18th minute through Newman Musa with Chukwuka Emmanuel doubling their lead in the 33rd minute.

Ifeanyi Nweke pulls one back for Nasarawa United, but all the efforts by the Solid Miners as Nasarawa United is popularly called proved abortive as their 61 games unbeaten home record came to an end.

Shooting Stars of Ibadan also started the season on a losing note as they crumbled to a 1-0 defeat to Lobi Stars in Ibadan. Former Shooting Stars striker, Kingsley Eduwo, got the only goal of the game in the 15th minute.

IfeanyiUbah also won 1-0 in Jos against Giwa FC just as Wikki Tourists defeated El-Kanemi Warriors by the same result away from home.

Rivers United compounded Enyimba’s woes since winning the league with a 1-0 win in Port Harcourt. The league champions, who recently lost the Charity Shield on penalties to Akwa United, are yet to score a goal in their last four games in all competitions.

The team also lost their Champions League preliminary first round game against Vipers of Uganda recently.

Akwa United continued their form as they played a 1-1 away draw to Sunshine Stars while the game between Heartland and Warri Wolves in Owerri ended goalless.
Kano Pillars came from a goal down to defeat Rangers 2-1 with Prince Aggrey’s getting the winner in the 90th minute.
