34 killed as second car bomb hits Ankara in weeks

The Turkish capital of Ankara has been hit by a deadly car bomb attack, the second in weeks, killing at least 34 and injuring another 125 people,

The attack near a transport hub is the third deadly attack in the city since October.

According to private broadcaster NTV, the bomb laden car exploded on Sunday evening in the centrally located Kizilay neighbourhood, near a major transport hub.

Witnesses said the blast set vehicles on fire and heavily damaged several buses. Police cordoned off the area shortly after the explosion.

Moments after the attack, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey issued a statement saying:

“These attacks, which threaten our country’s integrity and our nation’s unity and solidarity, do not weaken our resolve in fighting terrorism but bolster our determination.”

According to Al Jazeera’s Mohammed Jamjoom, reporting from Istanbul there has been no claim of responsibility for the attack yet.

“But this is a real concern for Turkey. It happened in the capital and this is the third explosion to have happened in Ankara since October.” Jamjoom added.
