36 prisoners escape, four killed in A’Ibom jailbreak
At least 36 prison inmates escaped yesterday during an attack on Ikot Ekpene Prison in Akwa-Ibom State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ogbajie Ogbajie, who confirmed the story to New Telegraph corresondent, said the jailbreak occurred about 11.47a.m.
Ogbajie said the prisoners seized an axe from a fellow inmate attached to the kitchen, inflicted a deep cut on the inmate’s head and immediately made for the rear entrance to the prison.
He said: “They broke the door with the axe and engaged the staff that chased after them in battle”.
