4.6m graduates have participated in NYSC since inception, Corps DG

NYSC withholds discharge certificates of foreign-trained ex-corpers

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, on Thursday said 4,644,808 Nigerians have participated in the scheme since inception in 1973.

He stated this on Thursday at a press conference in Abuja, noting that the scheme had been able to achieve national unity and integration.

The DG added that 1,132,409 corps members had also been equipped with Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development package of the scheme.

He said, “The objectives of the NYSC include; to inculcate discipline in Nigerian youths by instilling in then a tradition of industry at work and of patriotic and loyal service.

“Since inception, 4,644,804 Nigerians have participated in the scheme.”
