4 die in ambush during Catholic parade in Burkina Faso

Four persons have been killed and a statue of the Virgin Mary destroyed in an attack on worshippers during a religious procession in Burkina Faso.

Church officials who spoke to CNN on Wednesday said unknown gunmen stopped a group of worshipers during a Catholic parade in the remote village of Zimtenga, Kongoussi and set children free but killed four adults.

The attack came a day after six people, including a priest, were killed by gunmen who opened fire on worshipers in a Catholic church in Dablo, the central part of the country.

Also, French military officials freed four hostages last week, including an American and South Korean, in a rescue operation in Burkina Faso.

Two soldiers were killed during the rescue.
