There was bloodshed in Dallas during protests over the recent killings of two black men in Louisiana and Minnesota respectively when at least four policemen were shot dead during demonstrations.
The Dallas Police Department said on Twitter: “we are devastated to report a fourth officer has been killed”.
At least three of those killed were shot by what appeared to be sniper fire, police said.
An “intensive search” for suspects was under way police informed.
The otherwise peaceful protest over two recent fatal police shootings suddenly turned bloody when gun shot sounds sent demonstrators running for their lives in different directions.
The gun attack was apparently aimed at policemen on ground during the protests according to Dallas police chief, David O Brown, who said two gunmen shot at police officers from “elevated positions”, hitting at least 11 of them.
At least three of the wounded are in a critical condition.
