Death toll in Niger fuel tanker explosion reaches 98

The death toll in last weekend’s fuel tanker explosion in Niger State has increased to 98 persons.

The incident occurred last Saturday when a fuel tanker crashed and discharged its content in Gurara local government area of the state.

The Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba-Arah, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday in Minna.

He said 69 persons were injured while over 20 shops were destroyed in the incident.

President Bola Tinubu had since set up a high-level committee to investigate the alarming cases of tanker explosions on the nation’s highways.
