6 killed after faulty transformer explodes
Tragedy struck at a satellite town in Tundunwada area of Lugbe in the city of Abuja when a faulty transformer exploded and electrocuted at least six people including a pregnant woman.
Reports also revealed that four other persons were badly injured during the incident which saw the faulty transformer burn for about 10 minutes before sending devastating electric current which affected residents in the area.
A resident of the area who lost his friend, Joseph Terva in the incident, said his late buddy was about stepping out of his apartment when he was electrocuted to death.

“We were outside when the transformer exploded and started burning for about 10 minutes. Everyone was afraid and started running helter-skelter. It was later that I heard that my friend, Joseph, was electrocuted. We rushed down to his house and found that he had died,” the resident who pleaded anonymity said.
Another resident of the area, Nathaniel Nyinjo, blamed the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for the unfortunate incident saying officials of the power distributing company promised to compensate victims who were injured.
“The AEDC has already admitted its fault and promised to visit us during the Sallah holiday. But if they failed to compensate the injured and the families of the deceased, they should forget about restoring power around here and we will take them to court.” Nathaniel said.
AEDC’s Head, Corporate Communications and Community Relations, Mr. Oyebode Fadipe, said investigation had commenced into the immediate and remote cause of the incident saying further decision will be taken when the management gets to the root cause of the transformer explosion.
