6 men to get 120 strokes for drunken conduct
Six elderly men have been sentenced to receive 120 strokes of the cane for improper conduct by a Malumfashi Senior Magistrates’ Court in Katsina State on Wednesday after they constituted public nuisance while they were drunk.

The prosecuting police officer, Cpl. Joseph George, told the Senior Magistrate, Mannir Shehu that the convicts, Nomau Akwai, Yusuf Bature, Salisu Abdullahi, Sani Rabi’u, Sa’idu Abdullahi and Musa Yusuf, all residents of Malumfashi Local Government Area were arrested by a team of policemen on patrol at Marabar Kankara, a suburb of Malumfashi on March 13.

According to George, all four convicts were found wandering and drunk on alcohol at Gidan Mariya and Gidan Coach, an act which he said constituted public nuisance.

The prosecutor said the offence committed by the quartet flouted section 183 of the panel code law and urged the court to try them instantly.

To serve as a deterrent to others, the Senior Magistrate, Salisu Shehu sentenced the four men who pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against them to 20 strokes each of the cane.
