6-month-old baby found in thick forest

A good Samaritan has helped with the rescue of a 6-month-old baby who was found in the dense Idemili forest located in the Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra state.

The rescuer identified as Duff Ibanga who resides at Umuota village in the community said the cries of the abandoned baby drew his attention to the area while he was passing by.

Ibanga said he initially wanted to take the child to a nearby church but he thought against it and decided to report the matter to the police.

“The baby is now with the police; I wanted to take him to a church but I later changed my mind to avoid problems”, he said.

“The scene was visited by police detectives attached to juvenile and welfare unit of the division. The case is under investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and effort is ongoing to trace the biological mother of the baby.”
