60-day dry fasting claims woman's life is Sapele

A woman in Sapele, Delta State has lost her life after embarking on a two-month dry fasting.

According to reports, the incident happened along MTN Road, Okirigwhe in Sapele.

The woman, her husband, son, and a friend were said to have locked themselves inside the house for two months to complete the 60-day fasting.

Sources also revealed that a family friend initiated the fasting which they later joined and that they took only water when necessary during the spiritual exercise.

The sources also disclosed that while the mother lost her life due to the exercise, her son became emaciated.

The survivors of the fasting, reports say have been taken to the hospital for proper medical attention, while the body of the deceased had been evacuated.

Responding to enquiries on the incident, the spokeswoman for the state police command, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said she could not confirm or deny it, adding that no such report had been received by the police as at the time of enquiry.

She however assured that investigations would be intensified in that direction.
