64-yr-old trader in court for N3m land fraud

A trader identified as Iyabo Adeoti, 64, was arraigned at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly duping a company to the tune of N3 million.
The trader who lives at No. 6, Old Otta Road, Alagbado, Lagos, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) faced a two-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining under false pretense.
According to the prosecutor, Clifford Ogu, the accused sold a landed property which wasn’t hers for the sum of N3 million to a company known as Aina Gold Estate Management.
The prosecutor said in court that the suspect who pleaded not guilty committed the crime on May 10, 2016 on AIT Road, Alagbado, Lagos, while also noting that the offences contravened Sections 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
“When the company was about to take possession of the property, it was discovered that the accused was not the owner. All efforts to collect the money failed and the accused was apprehended,” he said.
Before adjourning the case till July 13, 2016 for further trial, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused N1m bail with two sureties in like sum, she also ordered the accused to pay N100,000 into the court chief registrar’s account as part of her bail condition.
