7 dead as robbers attack only commercial bank in Ondo community

Seven persons have been confirmed dead as the only commercial bank in Ido-Ani community in Ose local government area of Ondo state was on Monday afternoon invaded by armed robbers.

According to a report by The Nation, the robbers, numbering about six, arrived in a Sports Utility Vehicle. They were said to have gained entry into the bank through the aid of a dynamite, which was to force the security doors open before attacking customers and bank workers.

The robbers who operated for over an hour, carted away a yet to be disclosed amount of money.

Some customers and officials of the bank were said to have been seriously injured during the operation, as the robbers beat them to a pulp while trying to gain access into the bank’s vault. They are being treated at Ido-Ani General Hospital.

It was also gathered that one of the robbers was caught by men of the Nigerian Army when luck ran against him while he was trying to escape.

Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ondo State Command, Femi Joseph stated that he could not give details yet.
