7 secrets of a long lasting relationship

There is a lot written about how to have a happy relationship and how to make relationships work, but what really makes a relationship last a lifetime? Do these people who stay together until their dying days have such a perfect relationship?

Or, do they have to work at it, just like the rest of us? Even the very best relationships have their ups and downs, but somehow, some people seem better able to weather the storms than others.

If you crave a long lasting relationship, listed below are seven secrets that can make your dream come true.

1. They have total commitment: The first thing that sets apart a long lasting relationship from all the rest is the total commitment to each other that two people have. There are no ifs, buts, or maybes, both parties are 100% committed to each other and to the relationship.

2. They learn how to compromise: Couples who stay together for a long time also know that it is vital to be able to compromise on issues. They understand that there can’t be winners and losers, there just needs to be a solution to arguments and differences.

3. They pull together in times of adversity: If you live with another person for long enough, you are bound to have to face some life’s trials and tribulations. Couples in a long-lasting relationship learn that they can rely on one another for support and they know that they are stronger if they face things together.

4. They allow for each other’s needs: No two people can ever have identical wants and needs and happy couples accept their differences. There may well be times when one person will put their partner’s needs first, but that won’t be because they have to, it will be because they want to.

5. They talk: You really can’t have a successful relationship if you can’t communicate properly. People who stay together for a lifetime are the ones who talk everything through together. It’s a nice notion to think that people can be so close that they have some form of telepathy between them but, the truth is, they just talk to each other a lot.

6. They are considerate towards each other: Couples who really care for one another are also kind and considerate toward each other. They will take care of each other when one of them is ill, they always consider the other person when they make any decisions, and they would never do anything that might hurt their partner.

7. They don’t fight over the petty issues: You won’t find couples who have stayed together for a long time fighting over who didn’t rinse out the bath properly, or who left the top off the toothpaste, because they value the relationship more than they worry about such minor things. They know that bickering over the petty issues is a dangerous habit to get into.
