70 NECO staff sacked for certificate forgery

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has dismissed no fewer than 70 of its staff over alleged certificate forgery.

This was sequel to a report submitted by a Management Committee constituted to verify certificates of members of staff.

The approval for the sack was made at NECO’s 17th extra-ordinary meeting of the Governing Board after vetting the verification committee’s report.

In a statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Azeez Sani in Minna, the body said the certificate verification committee had invited the workers with allegedly questionable credentials to appear before it, after which some workers reportedly confessed that their papers were fake.

“The Committee also contacted the Schools and Institutions the affected staff claimed to have attended and the Schools and Institutions denied having certificated them,” the statement said.

The council noted that the dismissal was the first phase in the series of the on-going staff certificate verification exercise in NECO.
