After 71 days in detention, ex-gov Suswam regains freedom from DSS

The former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has finally been released by the Department of State Security (DSS ) after 71 days in the agency’s custody.

Suswam who was arrested on February 25, over alleged possession of firearms was reportedly released on Sunday at about 3:30pm.

The DSS had arrested and detained him after he honoured its invitation over the firearms accusation and alleged link with militia gang leader, Terwase Akwaza.

It was learnt that the DSS, having kept the former governor in custody for 71 days, finally decided to release him on self- recognition and on the condition that he must always honour its invitation whenever called upon.

Suswam meanwhile, is standing trial before a Federal High Court Abuja, over alleged fraud.
