72-yr-old accuse police of murdering her son in detention

Mrs. Chinyere Mba, A 72-year-old woman has cried out over the alleged killing of her 26-year-old son Chijioke Mba by men of the police force in Enugu.

Reports say Chijioke was arrested on April 3, 2016, by the police in the Agbani area of the state, after a boy identified as Ebuka was earlier arrested by police for being in possession of a cloth with secret cult insignia, who mentioned Chijioke’s name.

Ebuka was released afterwards but Chijioke according to his mother was detained and a search was carried out at her home by policemen but nothing incriminating was found.

The mother of the deceased also revealed that her in-law, Ifeanyi and his wife on a certain day took food to the police station for Chijioke but they were both detained and did not meet the victim on arrival at the station as he had been transferred to the Nigeria Police Distress Call Base, Enugu.

Mrs. Chinyere said she has been informed by impeccable sources that the police who detained her son had a hand in his killing while in custody.

When reached, the spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, revealed that he could not comment on the matter as he had not been fully briefed.
