About 76,000 intending pilgrims from the 36 states of the federation and Abuja are expected to participate in this year’s holy pilgrimage otherwise known as Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

The airlift to the holy land commenced on August 23 and will be concluded onSeptember 15.

The Director of Public Affairs of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria ( NAHCON) , Uba Mana, said the commission has so far recorded 49 flights of pilgrims from Kaduna, Lagos, Sokoto, Katsina, Oyo, Lagos, Zamfara and Kogi states and the airlift was done without any hiccup.

He said most of the pilgrims were airlifted direct to Medina, where they would spend seven days before proceeding to Mecca while others were transported to Jedda.

On Saturday, the commission said it had transported 18,909 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage.
