The suspect who had operated under the cover name Abu Muhammed Horasani, was caught in a hideout with his four-year-old son, according to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
Dozens of people have previously been detained in connection with the attack for which Islamic State has claimed responsibility, saying it was revenge for Turkish military involvement in Syria.
In the attack which took place on the 1st January, the assailant who was armed with a long-barreled weapon killed a policeman and a civilian outside the Reina club before entering and firing at people partying inside.
Fifteen or sixteen of the 39 people killed when the gunman attacked the nightclub were foreigners.
