9TH ASSEMBLY: Gaya declares intent to run for office of Deputy Senate President

As the race to occupy sensitive positions in the incoming Ninth Assembly hots up, Senator Kabiru Gaya has formally declared his intention to contest the position of Deputy Senate President.

Gaya who made his intention known in Abuja stated that he was vying for the position because he was by far the most ranked senator from the North-West geopolitical zone.

He also added that the North-West geopolitical zone ought to produce the next Deputy Senate President because the area gave the highest number of votes to President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2019 general elections.

He said, “If the six zones are accommodated in the sharing formula for the National Assembly leadership positions, four of them contributed tremendously to the election of Mr President.

“The South-West has now got the position of the Speaker. The North-East has got the position of Senate president. The North-Central has the position of the deputy speaker.

“Considering the zoning arrangement, it is clear that the North-West has been left behind and I am a ranking senator from the North-West. That means the DSP position should go to North-West,” he added.
