ABBA KYARI: Presidency asks journalists who covered burial to self isolate for 14 days

The Presidency on Sunday asked journalists who covered the burial of Mallam Abba Kyari, the late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, to proceed on self isolation for 14 days.

It would be recalled that Kyari died on Friday, after battling with the dreaded COVID-19 disease. He was buried on Saturday at the Gudu Cemetery in Abuja, where guidelines from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on large gatherings and social distancing were largely ignored.

The instruction from the presidency was contained In a statement released by the Deputy Director of Information in the State House, Attah Esa, adding that the directive was a precautionary measure to stop the spread of Coronavirus.

“As a precautionary measure, all State House Correspondents and Media Office Staff who covered/attended the funeral prayer/burial ceremony of the late Chief of Staff, at Defence House and Gudu Cemetery Abuja, respectively, are strongly advised to work from home for the next 14 days.

“Please be careful to observe the recommended measures to prevent the coronavirus transmission, including maintaining physical distancing and good personal hygiene going forward”, the statement said.

The directive to journalists and media office staff of the presidency is coming after some officials of the presidency, including top ones, were denied entry into the Presidential Villa after attending the burial.
