Abba Moro to stay in prison till Wednesday

The immediate past minister of interior, Comrade Abba Moro, has been remanded in prison custody by an Abuja Federal High Court.

Also remanded was a deputy director in the Ministry of Interior, F. O Alayebam‎i pending the hearing of their bail application on Wednesday.

The two accused persons were arraigned before Justice Anwuli Chikere on Monday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on an 11 count charge bordering on fraud, obtaining under false pretence and contravening the procurement law in the botched March 15, 2014 National Immigration Services recruitment exercise.

The third accused person, Mrs. Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, a former permanent secretary in the minister was allowed by the judge to continue to enjoy the administrative bail granted her‎ by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on February 22.

Represented by separate lawyers, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the 11 counts, when the charges were read to them.

However, the accused, Drexel, a company was not represented.

The EFCC also accused them of defrauding the 675,675 applicants of N675,675,000.

Each of the 676,675 applicants was charged N1,000 each and also allegedly flouted the Public Procurement Act, No. 65 of 2007 in the award of the contract for the organisation of the recruitment test to Drexel Tech Nigeria Ltd.
