Abia Assembly raises the alarm over provocation, attacks from neighbouring states

The skirmishes between the people of Umunneochi and their neighbours from Ebonyi State has forced the Abia State House of Assembly to raise the alarm over attacks from other states.

The Abia State House of Assembly has also called on relevant security agencies to beef up security in border areas and protect Abians from further provocation following the ongoing conflict between the people of Isu clan in Arochukwu Local Government Area and their neighbours from Cross River State.

A member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Okey Igwe, and the member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Mike Ukoha, lamented the continued breach of peace and security in their respective areas over border matters which has led to loss of lives.

While raising motions of urgent public importance, the pair appealed to the Assembly to cause the immediate restoration of the police post at the Lokpanta Quarry site which has been the hotbed of the crisis.

While ruling on the motions, the Speaker, Chinedum Orji, expressed regrets over the deaths which crises in both communities had caused.

He also called on agencies responsible for emergency situations both at the federal and state levels “to quickly come to the aid of the affected communities in order to ameliorate their sufferings”.
