Abubakar Atiku Takes Aim

I have not read the full interview but as expected it has generated a vicious response from no other than the governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency Nasir El Rufai. This wahala has been a long time coming and the feud must have been stoked by the commentaries on Alhaji Atiku by El Rufai in his very popular book, The Reluctant Civil Servant.

I read that book and even attended one of its readings at the Freedom Park where the author had come to read and take questions on issues he raised in the book. That the book was controversial is to state the obvious. It really painted the ex Vice President with tar and left Nigerians wondering if this was the same person that was being talked about . I am sure this was what would have led to Atiku firing from all cylinders.

As expected El-Rufai has responded without holding anything back. He has said that his former principal was prone to lies and other such derogatory things. Well for me, I would ask, do we really need this distraction from old political enemies who have taken advantage of the system and have really benefited from it?

Why are they this wicked, not allowing us to face our miserable existence but aiming to distract us from our pedestrian lives with all these dribble about who is a liar and who is ungrateful? In all their public lives, what have they really really done for the masses? So why should we be bothered about their childish tantrums and ego bruising shenanigans?

I even think that they should retire from public life. They have both passed their primes, hence this descent into the abyss of frivolity or what else would you call a cat fight between two people who should know better?

If you look closely, this is about positioning and repositioning towards 2019. They are beginning to align and realign all these without the interest of the masses o. What does Atiku mean by El-Rufai being ungrateful and why is El-Rufai calling Atiku a lair. Ungrateful for what and lying about what? If they are not ready to come out and be really transparent about their public lives then they should both just pack up and allow us to continue trekking down the road to Golgotha where they and their ilk have left us.

Let me end this brief write up by stating categorically that this generation that is their generation of Nigerians have failed us. They took over from the first generation and led us through the third republic, several military putches, June 12, rise of ethnic nationalism, a wasted economic boom, recession and general despondency, hence our loss of faith in them.

We would rather keep hoping on the next generation who despite all the above, have given us Nollywood, strong technological advancement comparable in some cases with the very best internationally, strong commercial institutions built on good corporate values amongst others.

Atiku and El Rufai, thanks for the mild distractions. Can we now at least focus?
