The Nigerian Air Force said on Monday that its two pilots injured in the September 30 Katampe air crash in Abuja had been discharged as investigations continued into the air accident.

The NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, in an exclusive interview, said some Chinese engineers, familiar with the spare parts of the F-7Ni fighter jets, had also arrived in the country and joined the military investigation.

Two NAF F-7Ni fighter jets had on Friday, September 30, collided in the air during the Independence Day Anniversary rehearsals, resulting in a crash in which a military pilot, Squadron Leader Bello Baba-Ari, died while two others were injured.

The PUNCH correspondent learnt on Monday that the pilots had been discharged, while the investigations into the crash, which had yet to be concluded, had involved some Chinese engineers familiar with the jet spare parts.
