Abule Egba fire: Why many houses, shops got burnt

More facts have emerged on why many houses, vehicles and shops were destroyed in Abule Egba and Oko Oba Abattoir area, when fire gutted the area in a pipeline explosion last Wednesday.

A pastor in charge of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCCG), Trinity Sanctuary, Abule Egba, Deacon Abiodun Abiojo said the fire fighters who came to put out the fire concentrated efforts on controlling the fire at Samar Filling Station, while other properties were left at the ‘mercy’ of the raging inferno.

“The fire men were concerned with preventing the fire at the filling station from spreading as there was a gas re-filling plant within the filling station. The firemen said if they had focused on other properties, there would have been more casualties as the intensity of the fire was so high that even reinforced concrete drainages and slabs were given way with some of them cracking,” he said.

He noted that some of the members of his church, who live at the Oko Oba Housing Estate Scheme IV had to run towards the canal at the back of the estate.
