Abuse of 15-yr-old girl: Friends, Ayade’s aides, politicians move to save ex-commissioner

There were clandestine moves yesterday by some top politicians and associates of the embattled former Commissioner for Information in Cross River State, Edet Okon Asim, to stop his continued detention and save him from an impending court case.

Asim, who is the Special Adviser to Governor Ben Ayade on Biodiversity, is being detained by the police for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.

He was accused of having canal knowledge of the girl for over three years, causing her to have three abortions. However, checks by the Saturday Telegraph revealed that some aides of the governor who happened to be friends of the ex-commissioner had yesterday besieged the police station and also reached out to some highly placed government officials, aiming to downplay the situation and save the governor’s aide from being disgraced.
