DRAMA: Jibrin drops suit against Dogara, now seeks N1bn for suspension
Abdulmumin Jibrin has been summoned to appear before an All Progressives Congress (APC), disciplinary committee over his allegations against the Speaker, House of Representatives.
He is mandated to be at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja not later than Tuesday (today) afternoon, to explain why he has to make public the alleged budget padding involving Speaker Yakubu Dogara and other principal members of the House of Representatives, without first, tabling the matter before the party.
The letter was sent to Jibrin, former chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and member of the party, on August 1, 2016 and signed by the party’s deputy national chairman for the northern zone, Lawal Shuaibu.
The party said, “To say the least, it is absolutely unacceptable to resort to media war as a means of settling scores without recourse to and/or exhausting the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanism.”
The party stated in the latter that the action Jibrin has taken so far shows an obvious disrespect for party supremacy and lack of trust in APC’s existing dispute resolution mechanism.
It said there is absolute need to ensure that discipline is installed among members of the party.
“As a disciplined party, the constitution of our party has made adequate provisions on ways of resolving any issue among our members. It behoves on the party to take all necessary steps in order to ensure that no member of the family brings dishonour to the party.
“You are, therefore, by this invitation, expected to appear before the undersigned at the APC national secretariat on Tuesday, 2nd August, 2016, at 2 p.m. Kindly note that failure to and/or refusal to honour this invitation will amount to a decision you have made not to submit to the party,” APC said.
On July 24, Jibrin was removed as chairman of the Appropriation Committee and days after his removal, he began to blow the whistle, accusing Dogara, his deputy, Yusuf Lasun, House Whip, Alhassan Doguwa and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor of padding the 2016 budget among other accusations of corruption.
Apart from Ogor, who is a Peoples Democratic Party Member (PDP) the other accused are members of APC, which has been championing the fight against corruption.
