A'Court overrules Abang again, declares Makarfi PDP chair

For a second time, controversial Justice Okon Abang got knocks from the Appeal Court as it described his ruling that declared Ali Modu Sheriff, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, as “fraud”.

The court nullified the June 29 judgement by Justice Abang Federal High Court and announced Ahmed Makarfi PDP chairman.

Abang had on June 29 announced Sheriff as the authentic PDP chairman and said that the group led by Ahmed Makarfi was a product of impunity.
He consequently ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to recognise only the faction endorsed by him, the Sheriff faction.

However, the three-member panel of Appeal Court judges sitting in Abuja and led by Ibrahim Salauwa on Wednesday set aside “the highly misplaced; most fraudulent judgement on June 29.”

The court also declared Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), the Makarfi-led PDP candidate of the Ondo State November 26 governorship election as the authentic candidate of the PDP, nullifying Abang’s October 14 ruling that sacked him and replaced him with Jimoh Ibrahim of the Sheriff faction based on the June 29 judgement.

Abang had also in August received knocks from the Appeal Court, after the appellate court reprimanded him for the controversial judgment he delivered regarding the Abia State governorship seat, describing him (Abang), as an assault on democracy.
