PDP insist Kashamu not its Ogun gov candidate, dubs him a paid agent to destroy party

Senator Buruji Kashamu was among those that made the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) final list of governorship candidates of political parties for the coming 2019 governorship elections.

The commission released the final list on Thursday.

INEC’s inclusion of Kashamu as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ogun State came despite the warning of the opposition party to the INEC chairman to obey court order and replaced Kashamu’s name with that of Ladi Adebutu.

Ladi Adebutu, backed by PDP national leadership, and Kashamu had been in tussle over the gubernatorial ticket.

PDP had in a recent statement cautioned the chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, “to insulate the commission from unnecessary controversies by immediately obeying the judgment of the Court of Appeal of December 18, 2018, and without further delay reflect Hon. Ladi Adebutu’s name on the ballot, in the interest of a hitch free and peaceful election in Ogun state.”

The party had argued that “Adebutu’s name was duly and statutorily submitted to INEC after he won the governorship primary conducted by the National Working Committee (NWC), the only body empowered by law to conduct such primaries. The PDP has not substituted his nomination with anybody and such is not in our contemplation.”

Kashamu has as his running mate, Reuben Abati, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s aide and a seasoned journalist.
