AFCON Qualifier: Golden Eaglets edge Niger, set up Ghana final

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have reached the final of the regional WAFU B U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after edging Niger 2-1 in their semi-final clash at the Seyni Kountche Stadium, Niamey on Wednesday.

The Nigerian teenagers got ahead just before halftime through Akin Amoo who scored from a Mohammed Ibrahim assist.

The team doubled their lead on the 58th minute when Olakunle Olusegun curled in a brilliant effort from the edge of the box.

Nigeria thought they were heading to a clean sheet victory when the hosts pulled a goal back at the stroke of full time.

The Manu Garba side will now face Ghana, who defeated Cote d’lvoire 2-1 in the other semifinal tie, in the final.

And Saturday’s final, to be played at the Seyni Koutnche Stadium, Niamey, will determine the winner, who will qualify for the 2019 CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania.
