The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria lost 10-9 on penalties in a pulsating semi-final encounter against their Guinean counterparts in the ongoing AFCON U-17 tournament taking place in Tanzania.
The first half of the encounter was dominated by the Guinean U-17 team as they had more corners, more shots on goal and dominated in terms of ball possession.
The second half of the encounter also ended goalless as the very physical Guinean team forced the Nigerian side to play a bit more cautious unlike their expressive performances in previous games of the competition.
After both halves of the game ended goalless, both teams went straight into penalty shootouts with Guinean side prevailing 10-9 on penalties edging the Golden Eaglets to a ticket in the AFCON U-17 final which will be staged during the weekend.
Nigeria’s U-17 team tutored by Manu Garba will now face the loser of the second semi-final game between Cameroon and Angola to determine which team will finish third and fourth in the youth tournament.
